MIAC Mining Conference/Forum
This is a basic draft for the MIAC Conference. From what I was told, MIAC would have voted on the conference at their meeting in September had included a conference draft. But they did express strong interest in convening a mining conference. So I was asked to put something together to provide the tribes with an outline of how such a conference would look like.
I put together a mindmap and a proposed agenda for the conference. So please look over the mindmap and see if anything needs to be added. Bear in mind that the main focus of this conference is to provide tribes with information. No pro-mining interests will be invited to this conference. We are presenting our side of the issue - and our side is about the manoomin.
Because we, i.e., POM, asked the tribes to convene a mining conference, the conference will be on their dime, not ours. The price estimate I have is $3000. This is for stipends and printing a handout folder. It doesn't include lodging and food. If it's held at a casino/hotel, it really won't cost the tribes that much to cover lodging and food expenses.
My next step will be to write the proposal using the info on the mindmap and then submit it to the urban MIAC rep.
By the way, if the tribes decide not to host his conference, we will go to Plan B - hosting our own mining forum. Both IEN and WaterLegacy have told me they would provide support.

Manoomin and Sulfate Graphic
This graphic was made to use as an educational tool. A lot of people have trouble understanding the scientific explanation regarding the effects of sulfate on manoomin. This graphic will help them to understand. Basically it shows the exact process of what happens - the conversion of sulfate into hydrogen sulfide that, in turn, kills the plant. The graphic is in color but, because of printing costs, is best printed as a black/white copy.

About Mindmapping
Mindmapping is a tool we use in White Bison Wellbriety Programs. It can be used for charting one's personal historical trauma, or it can use used to take one's personal inventory when going through the Third Step/Fourth Step. It can also be used for a number of purposes - for planning events, or listing various goals for individuals, groups, and organizations. Mindmapping is not the same as "brainstorming." Mindmaps are more precise than simply charting a list.
To create a mindmap, a name, subject, or topic is placed at the center. It can be withing a circle, rectangle, or picture. Main spokes radiate outward. The main spokes represent an idea, thought, or goal as it relates to the name. subject. or topic at the center. Smaller spokes radiate out from the main spokes. Again, these are ideas and thoughts as they relate to the main spoke they are attached to.
The Protect Our Manoomin Mindmap (1) presents some of our goals and strategies. Some goals we've accomplished; other goals are strategies we're working on. So the mindmap presents a good look at who we are, what we've done, and where we want to go. One of the unique things about mindmapping is you can further refine and fine-tune goals and strategies. The topics on the main spokes can themselves become a mindmap. Or the topics/goals on the smaller spokes can be mindmapped. So let's say we want to look more closely at "Proposed Actions" and we want to plan/organize the smaller spoke titled "Harvester Forum." We begin a new mindmap and put Harvester Forum at the center as the topic. Then we add main spokes radiating out with various goals and objectives - when, where, how, why, and who.
Overall, mindmaps are a good way of organizing our efforts. We get a clear visual picture of what we need to do. And it's a good way of staying on track.
